Maserati Quattroporte: Now also with a V6 petrol!

0

As history recalls, the advent of the Quattroporte dates as far back as 1963. Back then, Maserati introduced its first-ever luxury sports sedan, which came powered with a massive V8 engine. In the company’s speak, the Quattroporte was the fastest sedan in the world at that time. And, of course, it was very Italian in the way it was styled, thanks to a timeless design.

The iteration of the Maserati Quattroporte you see above, however, is nowhere as old. In fact, it is fairly new as this generation of the luxury sports sedan underwent a mid-cycle facelift just last year. The BS-VI approved versions of the Quattroporte, however, were released to the public at a later date.

If you look closely back to the roots of the Quattroporte, it very much means the same business as it did years ago. A luxury sports sedan with utmost luxury that combines Italian craftsmanship into an overall vastly desired package.

And if counter in the fact that nothing comes close to drawing eyeballs as a Maserati in this price segment – and not just in the Indian market – it makes for a compelling buy. So, should you shell out well north of a crore on the Quattroporte? Well, let me try to answer this question for you with the complete low-down of the luxury sports sedan.

Specifications

As said above – multiple times – the Quattroporte is an Italian machine that blends style with performance. Therefore, it is designed with exclusivity in mind. The top-spec version of the sedan has a sporty edge, replete with muscular bumpers and gloss black side skirts, which further add for an imposing presence. The big Maserati gets 21in alloys, sports seats, paddle shifters, a sports steering wheel and red brake callipers, and it looks simply stunning and elegant.

As for the overall dimensions, the car is 5,262mm in length, 1,948mm in width, and 1,481mm in height. The standard 19-inch wheels are separated by a wheelbase of 3,171mm. Other than that, it has a respectable fuel tank capacity of 90-litres and a boot space capacity of 450-litres.

Under the hood, the Maserati sedan comes powered by a diesel engine and a – as it says in the title – a petrol engine. As for the oil burner, it’s a 3.0-litre diesel V6 motor, which generates 271bhp and 600Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol, on the other hand, comes in two states of tune, with the lower variants churning out 345bhp and 500Nm of torque while the higher-spec variants producing a relatively higher 424bhp and 580Nm of torque.

Mileage

As for the overall fuel efficiency, strictly do not expect the Maserati to deliver any mind-crunching numbers. Of course, the diesel engine delivers better fuel efficiency around 14km/l. As for the petrol engine, expect it to deliver somewhere around 7-8km/l.

Features

The main highlights inside include an 8.4-inch high-resolution touchscreen. The infotainment system also offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. A standard addition to the infotainment system includes a 10-speaker Harman-Kardon premium sound system which works along with a 12-channel, 900W subwoofer. Maserati also offers an optional 1,280W Bowers and Wilkins 15-speaker surround sound system, as an optional extra.
