Kone Pure vs AIMO – Unboxing Two Fantastic and Nearly Similar Gaming Mice

0

In both mice, ROCCAT provides similar packaging; a black box with a colorful image of the mouse at the top. At the back, buyers will find detailed content, in three columns, on the specs printed in a fine but readable font. Inside the box, notice the angled edge on flap, is the mouse well packaged in a plastic casing. There is also a warranty card, three stickers and an installation guide. For the Kone Pure, the Owl-Eye sensor and the 2D Titan wheel are the most prominently visible features.

The Owl-Eye optical sensor in the mouse is ROCCAT’s name for the PixArt 3361. The sensor gives this gadget a very smooth tracking effect. In other words, the mouse has a perfect adjustment and responds to small movements very well. Regarding the lift off distance, the Kone Pure works well at low LOD settings. LOD measures whether mice can track while placed on a stack of CDs (compact discs). At an ideal distance, a quality mouse would not lose its accuracy. At low settings, the Kone Pure achieves 1CD LOD.

Features

  • Owl-Eye optical sensor, 12,000dpi precision
  • Grip coating on the surface
  • Advanced lighting system
  • Easy-shift (+) button with technology providing 17 functions
  • Swarm software for easy mouse installation and use
  • Weighs 88 grams

AIMO

ROCCAT has adopted the Pixart PMW3360 technology and customized it as Owl-Eye. The Kone AIMO mice have a similar design to the Kone Pure. Looking at its design, one has no doubt that the mouse is for the right-handed gamer. Also, the device comes equipped with four buttons at the top plus a scrolling wheel. In breaking with tradition, the AIMO has an extra button on the side.

Mouse buttons

The two click buttons, also called Mouse 1 and Mouse 2, are highly responsive to pressure from a user’s finger. The feeling on a player is also sharp, and that is how all gaming mice ought to behave. Also, the mouse wheel (or Mouse 3) has a crisp feel despite the near sloppy work on the detents. However, there are people who prefer gentle notches on their mouse wheel while others like one whose clicks are very clear. All the same, the AIMO’s wheel has not issues whether scrolling in the horizontal or vertical direction.

Three buttons on the left

Behind the wheel are two buttons placed strategically for DPI settings adjustment. A person can configure any DPI settings they prefer but each profile only has five. From its elongated shape, the AIMO’s DPI buttons placement makes their use easy. Looking at the left side of the AIMO mouse, one will see the forward and backward buttons neatly placed above the grove where the thumb rests. Below, the thumb rest is a third button for the Easy-Shift function. However, unlike the first two, the third one presses downwards.

Features

  • Owl-Eye optical sensor with 12,000dpi precision
  • Tilting mouse wheel that also glows during use
  • Harmonic lighting system that changes with usage
  • Four configurable light zones in LED
  • Weighs 130 grams

Swarm Software at a Glance

The Swarm software from ROCCAT features a simple design and an intuitive interface. At the top of the graphic interface are panels for device choice, LED lighting, and mobile app connections. Individuals can also configure the scroll speed as well as the mouse settings for Windows. Moving to the illumination page, a user can adjust lighting settings on their mouse to their preference. These configurations have similar options for both the Kone Pure and AIMO mice.

The Verdict

Both the Kone Pure and AIMO mice have the Owl-Eye optical sensor technology. Each of their sensors has an accuracy of 12,000dpi. However, the Pure variant is lighter (at 88 grams) than the AIMO (at 130 grams). Both have the sound backing of the Swarm software with proper options for settings. However, ROCCAT seems to design their mice with right-handed users in mind. The Kone Pure and the AIMO are for such gamers. Perhaps the time has come for having gamers mice for both right and left-handed people. Check out  roccat kone aimo review to get additional information.
