Detecting early that your kids need glasses is one way to help them cope with school activities. Kids may not be able to tell the state of their eye health to enable you to provide the needed help. However, you can take them to an optometrist for an eye examination. Meanwhile, the following signs are an indication that your kids need glasses.
- Squinting
When your kid starts to squint his or her eyes to read, see something clearly or adjust to bright light, that indicates that the kid needs help, especially glasses. Squinting is an unconscious effort to clear blurry vision and better. Get glasses for young kids and prevent further damage to their vision.
- Covering One Eye or Tilting Head
If your kid covers an eye or tilts head to adjust the angle of vision to increase clarity, that could indicate that he/she has amblyopia, a common eye disorder in children. Do not take this sign for granted, visit an optometrist with your kid for an examination and prescriptions glasses.
- Holding a Book or Hand-held Device Too Close to the Eyes
When your kid holds a book or any hand-held device too close to the eyes, that may be a sign of myopia or near-sightedness. Your kid may prefer to sit too close to the TV; that shows that he/she has difficulty seeing correctly. He/she may need a pair for glasses; book an appointment with an optometrist.
- Complaints of Headaches
Although many factors may be responsible for your kid’s headaches, you should not rule out the possibility of a need for glasses. Frequent complaints of headaches should prompt you to take your kid to see an optometrist for an eye exam and possibly, glasses.
- Skipping Lines While Reading
If your kid misses or skips lines when reading, it means that your child likely has astigmatism. Ask your kid to read aloud periodically to carry out this small test. If your child keeps skipping lines or has a hard time keeping his/her place, book an appointment with an optometrist as soon as possible. Your kid needs glasses.
- Poor Performance in School
If your kid’s performance in school suddenly drops, poor vision may be the cause. This would undoubtedly give the kid a hard time keeping up with studies or concentrating in classes that results in poor performance. Your kid certainly needs a pair of glasses. Schedule a visit to an optometrist’s office as soon as possible.
- Rubbing Eyes Excessively
When your kid rubs his/her eyes excessively, iris an indication of eye fatigue or strain, and many factors may be responsible for this condition. Your kid may need glasses to fix this condition. See your optometrist.
