So you’re all moved and getting settled in, there’s one more thing that you need to do and that is to change your address. While you can do this online, you’re going to find that it requires a $1 service fee that is used to verify your identity. This fee can be paid with a credit or debit card. However, you’re a busy person and you also don’t want to put any of your banking information on the Internet. What can you do?
You could call the post office, but they’re still going to require this $1 verification which still means that your personal banking information is going to be compromised. Your best course of action is to go into the post office and fill out the form 3575 at your local post office.
If you’re in between your locations, but know what your new address is going to be, you can still fill this out at any post office. keep in mind that you may need to show them proof of your new address such as a utility bill or documentation of your rental contract or mortgage to verify where you’re new address is going to be.
This form is the same as the form that you’re filling out online and you can fill it out right there at the post office when you go to pick it up. When you go in person to the post office, they will waive the verification fee and you’re not going to have to compromise your personal information.
You’ll also want to make sure that you notify all of your credit card companies, your bank, your subscriptions and other documents (doctors office etc.) of your new address to ensure that your important documents are getting to you.
You can set the date that your mail begins being forwarded but in the meantime, there may be some mail that slips through to the other address. Be sure to check it a few times to make sure that everything is transitioned so that you’re getting the important documents that you need so that your bills are paid on time.
The post office will do this for you without any hesitation. It’s part of the many other services that the United States Post Office offers to customers. Remember that the sooner you change your address, the sooner your mail will get to you. You don’t have to do it immediately, but if you want your mail, it’s recommended that you do it as soon as you know your new address.
Many people still go online and print out the required form for the change of address, and then they fill it out and take it to the post office in person. This can save time when waiting in line. You can also mail it in as well, however, keep in mind, that you’ll still have to verify the new address and your identity so you’ll still wind up owning the verification fee.
If you’re in a hurry, you can always stop in at the post office and pick up the forms and return later with them filled out and the proper documentation that is required. To change the address, you’ll need to be over the age of 18 and you may be required to show proof of identity (unless you’re in a very small town where everyone knows everyone else). A lot of people will then send out an email to all of their friends and family with the new address. You could also mail out postcards if you wish to let your friends and family know your new address.
You can also fill out a temporary change of address form online at www.change-of-address-form-online.com. This will allow you the option of being able to forward your mail for a temporary amount of time. This could be for a few weeks or a few short months which is ideal if you’re away for school or training. This form is the same form, you just fill in a specific box and set up the dates that you wish to have the mail forwarded.
If you prefer, you can also set up a post office box in lieu of changing your address to a street address. There are many great reasons to use a post office box over a street address. In some locations, all of the addresses are post office boxes. There are no rural mail services in some locations. In others, you will have the option and you can fill this out on the form.
If you are residing where normal mail services occur, you can opt for a post office box, however, it’s important to keep in mind that you’ll need to pay a box rental fee. This fee will allow you to use the box for six months to one year depending on which option you select. You can forward all of your mail to the post office box over a street address if desired.
The post office makes the forms very self-explanatory and easy to fill out. You will fill in some basic information including the previous address and the new one and then sign the documents. You’ll wait in line to speak with a post office employee and they will ask you a few questions and peruse the form to make sure it’s complete. They’ll have to look over your personal identification and then the task will be complete.
It’s really easy to change your address without a credit card as long as you’re willing to go into the post office and fill out the right forms and show proof of identity. If you’re seeking a way to save as much money as possible or a way to protect your banking and personal information online, this is definitely the route to go.
Remember, the sooner you change your address the sooner you’re going to receive those important documents you need to pay your bills and stay in touch with your loved ones so be sure to do it right away.
