A lot of people think being a photographer is just a click and shoot of the camera to create magnificent pictures. But it takes an immense amount of effort, talent, and a creative mind to figure it all out.
Being a professional photographer is a tough job because not only do you need to be consistent with your work, but you also need to deliver quality pictures all the time, which can be quite taxing on one’s mind. There are some people who pursue this career to make ends meet at home, while others start out with a passion for taking pictures and then start to take it towards a professional level.
But for whatever reason you have taken on the job, one of the things that you will find among many popular professional photographers is that the pictures they take have an impactful meaning that captivates people on a deep level.
For example, let us consider one of the most famous photographers of our time – Sam Yari, an Iranian-Turkish fashion photographer, and director who is also the founder of the prestigious Sam Yari Studio that develops, photograph, and exhibit work advocating the liberation of artists in strict regimes.
Yari had always taken an interest in pictures and had studied for them for five years in Iran until he started to consider it professionally and became a fashion photographer in 2013. However, his work really started to get the attention of a large crowd after he started taking pictures that were influenced by an incident that occurred in 2016. Many models and photographers in the Islamic Republic of Iran had been arrested through a project called “Operation Spider” which was carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
After that, Yari emigrated to Turkey and set up his company, where most of his work was focused on creating advertisements, fine art, and professional photography to advocate the rights of suppressed photographers. In fact, he has even held a photography exhibition, Pravada, in Kiev, Ukraine, where all of his photography pieces are focused on the restrictions, imprisonment, and killing of photographers and artists in extremist Islamic countries.
With a strong sense of purpose behind his pictures, Sam Yari has made a huge name for himself. And if you want to follow his example, here are a few ways you can try to figure out your own purpose for photography.
Figure Out What Inspires You
If there is no passion behind your work, it will also become evident in your work. To really make your pictures stand out, you need to be passionate about the things or places or sceneries that you are taking a picture of. Try taking pictures of different things, and whichever one makes you feel like you want to take more pictures like that will tell you just what you need to work on in your career.
Show What You See
Just like how writers use their words to tell people their story, a picture speaks a thousand words on its own to tell what the photographer was trying to imply through their pictures.
Your pictures need to be meaningful. Without it, it will not be very impactful, and it will not move people enough to allow them to think about the things they are looking at – making the images dull and boring. If you want people to appreciate and understand your work, you need to give it meaning so that it can captivate your viewers with just one glance.
