This is another intense film by director Vivek Agnihotri. The Tashkent Files focuses on Raagini Phule, a young journalist (Shweta Basu Prasad), who receives a tip that prompts the formation of a panel of experts for investigation. They look into the reasons surrounding the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second prime minister. Chakraborty plays Shyam Sunder Tripathi, the head of the government’s investigating committee. An earthquake destroys Kanji’s shop one day, and the insurance company refuses to pay, claiming the calamity falls under the act of God. So Kanji goes to court and sues God. Mithun plays Leeladhar Maharaj, a godman summoned by the court to testify in Kanjilal’s case. His character is based on a real-life personality, which makes it even more entertaining on screen.
