In India, admissions to government, private and deemed colleges are done through NEET. This exam is conducted by CBSE and is the only exam through which aspirants can get into these colleges. It is held in the 1st week of May every year. More than 11 lakh aspirants who wish to pursue MBBS and BDS appear for the exam.

The only institutes which conduct their own entrance exams are AIIMS and JIPMER.

AIIMS conducts its own entrance exam in the 4th week of May. All Indian citizens can apply for the exam. The application process usually begins from January. Results are declared in June and seats are allotted via common counseling held by the Institute.

The MBBS course in this college has a maximum capacity of 107. Due to the growing popularity of the institute, 6 other campuses were set up all over India. The colleges have a capacity of 100 each.

2-Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore

CMC, Vellore is one of the best medical schools in India with a national ranking within 5. It has a capacity of 100 out of which 84 seats fall in the sponsored category. Admissions to this Institute are done on the basis of NEET scores.

Students must apply for this college in order to take part in the selection process. Applications will be accepted latest by June. CMC has a 2 step selection process. Candidates who qualify NEET will be considered for admission. Applicants will have to first undergo an objective, computer based test. Those who clear this stage will move to the Interview round. The institute will release a merit list which will have the names of qualified students.

3-Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune

AFMC, Pune is an amalgamation of a number of defense medical organizations. It is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Medical Sciences. It has a total capacity of 130 students (105 boys and 25 girls) who have to serve as Medical Officers in the Armed Forces.

Candidates will be admitted based on NEET scores. They must, however, apply for the Institute separately. The registration process will begin in July. AFMC, Pune will publish a merit list of shortlisted applicants on the basis of NEET rank.

4-Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry

JIPMER, Puducherry is a renowned medical college. It conducts its own entrance exam. It has a maximum capacity of 150 seats for MBBS course. It’s Karaikal campus has about 50 seats.

JIPMER MBBS entrance exam is held in June. The application forms will be available from March. More than 1 lakh individuals apply for JIPMER every year. General category students must secure a minimum of 50th percentile (40th percentile for SC, ST, OBC, and OPH) to qualify the exam. The top scorers will be shortlisted via a merit list. They will have to appear for the common counseling which will be held by the end of June.

5-Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), New Delhi

MAMC, New Delhi is a government medical college affiliated to the University of Delhi. It provides world class medical education and offers several good facilities. It has a seat intake of 250.

Aspirants must clear NEET with a fantastic rank to get into this Institute. This is because it is the most preferred college for many students.    Applicants who secure a minimum of 50th percentile in NEET are eligible for the state counseling. Those who want to be admitted in UCMS must give their preference accordingly. Only Indian nationals are admitted to this Institute. It has a total seat intake of 150.

10-King George’s Medical University, Lucknow
